Mineral mining (underground method)
About the programme
The Underground Mining specialisation is designed to train specialists in the planning, organisation and safe development of mineral deposits by underground methods.
Students study mine development and preparation technologies, underground excavation and support, underground mining systems, geomechanics, mine surveying, mine ventilation, underground transport, mine drainage, drilling and blasting, and industrial safety.
Special attention is given to excavation stability, ground pressure control, accident prevention, rock mass monitoring and the provision of safe working conditions.
Practical training includes mining engineering calculations, the design of underground workings and technological schemes, production performance analysis and the solution of problems related to the safety and efficiency of underground mining.
Graduates may work as mining engineers, underground mine technologists, mine ventilation specialists, industrial safety specialists, mine planning engineers and managers of underground production units.
